5 Interior Design Trends Worth Investing In This Year
We’ve all seen trends come and go like British weather—hot one minute, soaking the next. But every now and then, a few stick around long enough to be worth your time and your wallet. If you’re like me, you want your home to look current without needing a full refurb every six months, yeah?
The trick? Focus on interior design trends that have staying power. I’m talking about updates that make your space feel fresh, modern, and liveable—but that also won’t feel dated by the time the next season’s catalogue drops. Here are 7 design trends I, love and genuinely think are worth investing in this year.
1. Earthy, Muted Colour Palettes
Beiges, warm greys, and all the shades of terracotta—they’re having a proper moment. I repainted my lounge in a soft clay tone last summer, and it instantly made the space feel grounded.
These colours are timeless, and they create a calm backdrop for anything you layer on top. You can still bring in bold accents, but this base makes everything feel more grown-up, if that makes sense.
2. Curved Furniture & Soft Edges
I was sceptical at first—curved sofas felt a bit too “hotel lobby” for me. But I found a boucle chair with rounded arms, and it changed the whole vibe of one of my client’s reading nook.
Curves soften a space and make it more inviting. If you’re not up for new furniture, try round side tables, oval mirrors, or even arched shelving.

3. Statement Lighting as Sculpture
Lighting isn’t just practical—it’s a focal point now. A few years ago, I swapped the basic pendant in the hallway of one of our clients for a hammered metal base fixture and suddenly the whole space had character.
Don’t be afraid to go bold. Think oversized paper lanterns, wavy floor lamps, or chandeliers with organic shapes. It’s functional art, really.
4. Natural Materials & Textures
Wood, stone, rattan, linen—you name it. Mixing textures brings depth to any room. You can add a jute rug to the bedroom and couldn’t believe how much cosier it felt.
Skip the synthetics when you can. It might cost a tad more upfront, but natural materials wear beautifully over time. Plus, they make a room feel more alive.
5. Built-In Storage That Looks Like Furniture
This one was a game-changer. For some of my clients’ projects I have had a joiner install built-in shelves around the fireplace, painted the same colour as the wall, and bam—elegant storage without the clutter.
Built-ins are great for small spaces and add resale value too. Bonus: they make you look way more organised than you actually are.

Interior design shouldn’t be about chasing trends—it’s about creating a home that feels like you. These 5 ideas offer both style and longevity, which is a rare combo these days.
Start with one change and see how it feels. Design is a journey, not a sprint, and if you enjoy the process, it’ll show in your space. Got a trend you’re loving? I’d love to hear about it!
